"I don't know nothin' 'bout birthing babies!" — Prissy in Gone With the Wind
Now we can say we know *a bit* about birthing babies. We have successfully completed our childbirth education class. Some of the videos were a little, um, hard to watch, but overall the class was really good. I actually found it to be reassuring. It just reminds you that we are not the first couple to go through this!
One thing that the teacher said that really stuck with me is that most things that are painful are painful because they are continuous. However, with childbirth, you have breaks between contractions so it makes it a bit more manageable. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen, but it made me feel a little bit better.
The early part of labor didn't sound so bad either. This is when the contractions aren't that intense yet (or that frequent) and excitement and happiness are the main emotions felt. We would still be at home at this part, and in between contractions, we are supposed to be doing something that takes our focus off of the labor -- like playing a board game or something. It will also be the last time that we are hanging out as a family of just two. Dare I say it -- it sounds kind of like a fun bonding experience!
Those of you that have gone through childbirth are probably laughing at me right now. Go ahead, but please don't do it to my face -- let me keep my fantasy alive for a few more weeks!
