One order of hormones, please

So last Saturday Kevin and I were hanging out at home when Kevin went to one of the neighborhood Italian places to pick up lunch. I asked for an order of penne pasta with tomato sauce. Off Kevin goes...and returns with an order of penne pasta with marinara sauce.

MARINARA sauce? I asked for TOMATO sauce. As everyone knows, tomato sauce is exactly what it sounds like -- sauce made from tomatoes. Marinara sauce, however, is totally different -- it's tomato sauce with additional stuff like garlic and basil! How could Kevin make such a horrible mistake? I felt like I wanted to cry.

Kevin asked me several times if he could take it back and get another one. "No," I grunted repeatedly. After trying unsuccessfully to pick out the garlic and basil, I ate about six pieces of pasta before I gave in to my desire and started bawling.

The funny thing is, I knew how ridiculous I was being -- I just couldn't help it! This was my first experience with the pregnancy hormones. I assume it won't be my last. Please bear with me!

Baby Daddy

So I said I would address it in a later post, so here goes. Who is my baby's daddy? The possibilities are:

1. Kevin, my husband who you all know and some of you love.

2. Mr. Met, the Mets mascot who you may not know but once you meet him, you will love him.

Yes, I have to admit, even though I am a die-hard Cubs fan, I fell hard for Mr. Met when I came to New York. I think the first time he caught my eye was during a rain delay at Shea, when he was wearing a yellow rain slicker with an umbrella and jumping in the puddles. My crush only got worse once SNY started airing commercials of Mr. Met wreaking havoc on Shea Stadium out of his boredom when the Mets were on a road trip.

At this point, only time will tell. Kevin has agreed to love the baby unconditionally, whether it comes out with a baseball head or not. (Of course, I think he is counting on the fact that a Mr. Met baby will get him into the all-new Citi Field next year.)

You be the judge. Here is the latest ultrasound picture at 12 weeks, 2 days:

Pregnancy symptoms

A lot of people have been asking how I've been feeling, so I thought I would answer it here.

Backaches, headaches, stomachaches, increased appetite... It is hard to be an expectant parent! Just ask Kevin -- he is experiencing all of it!

Seriously, Kevin has many more signs of pregnancy than I do! I have heard of sympathy pains, but this is ridiculous!

Me, on the other hand, I have been feeling great. No morning sickness (so far -- crossing fingers that this stays true), and I have been a little bit more tired than usual, but not debilitatingly so. I do get naseous in cars sometimes (although that might just be NYC driving) -- luckily I hardly ever ride in cars. The biggest symptom I have (and the reason I suspected I might be pregnant) was my superhuman sense of smell (but in NYC in the summer, that is not a good thing).

Here's hoping that it stays this easy...

Lemon-ade

So I am 14 weeks pregnant -- officially in the second trimester! And that makes our baby roughly the size of a lemon. That's pretty amazing, considering when we found out at four weeks, it was the size of a poppyseed!

What's the baby up to now? "Your adorable little fetus is busy with thumb sucking, toe wiggling, and (not so cute but equally amazing) making urine and breathing amniotic fluid as the liver, kidneys and spleen continue to develop. Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over the body for warmth. " I have a feeling the body hair is coming from my side of the family.

Boy or Girl?

So the most common question we get (besides who the father is, which I will address in a later post) is: are we going to find out if it is a boy or girl? The answer: yes, on or around December 17th! Sorry to disappoint you all, but we have decided to wait. (No, Kristin, you cannot find out and "keep it a secret"!)

So as Kevin has alluded, he is a hoping for a boy; I, on the other hand, am hoping for a girl. When the little munchkin makes its debut later this year, either way, we will be super happy and excited. But just wanted to put that out there for future bragging rights.

I like little boys

I am rooting for a boy. A 6"2' lefthanded boy who throws about 92 miles per hour with natural movement with his pitches. I anticipate acting as his agent as he signs extremely lucrative deals with either the Cubs or the Mets (if it is the White Sox or Yankees, we will disown him). By 2027 he will be 19, and MLB contracts will be ridiculously large. So by then, we will be able to buy the entire Lake Delavan, and rename it, so everyone will come to the Cohen fireman ball, as opposed to the Lake Delavan fireman ball. Can't wait to see you then.

p.s. if we don't hear from you between now and then, you are still invited, as long as you bring scotch.

Welcome!

Look at me! Blogging! So although I am a bit technologically challenged, I thought a blog would be a great way to keep our friends and family updated about our lives at the moment. It is starting out as a pregnancy blog, but hopefully we'll have some cute baby pictures to post in a few months! Enjoy!
